Unit 5. Real samples, questions & answers

MOCK INTERVIEW SAMPLES

The visual and written examples shown here have been assigned for this work generously and selflessly by courtesy of the authors, all of whom are students at the School of Architecture of Madrid. They are all now ready to deal successfully with their first English interview. We hope that many other students will take advantage of this web.

In this section we would like to show you some students’ interviews in real class activities "Visual & Text".

Text

The sample text interview questions and answers shown in this section have been worked according to the ACPEL Portfolio (2009). The descriptors from the ACPEL Portfolio (2009) have been adapted to the set of questions that a student of architecture could find in an interview. However, since a descriptor is open to anyone’s learning, any student can find the same or additional descriptors elsewhere, depending on many factors, such as the style of learning, level of the language, previous interview experience... etc. The descriptors used as examples were competences acquired and created by a student. The levels of competences consideredin here have been selected according to the students´ scope level use in each question.

A. What is a descriptor and why it is useful

A descriptor can be understood as the linguistic competence that the student of a language has. In this guidebook has been worked out descriptors for oral interviews that a candidates could need for a standard professional interview in the field of architecture. The use of descriptors provides the students clear, useful and relevant information about the language they use. By making them concerned about the learning process and self awareness of it use.

B. Questions & answers with descriptors

The following text encloses an example of a student question and answer full exercise with the descriptors in context. The red colour used works out the following items:

The descriptor and the English level given in the ACPEL Portfolio book, and also in red it has been added the descriptor acquired by the student after being prepared for the interview. As you can see every question provides a sample of descriptors set, that helps the students in their learning process.
